Wausau/Madison - LeRoy V. Gullings, age 90, died Fri. Feb. 5, 2010, at the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center Madison.
He was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Wheaton, Minnesota, to the late Ingeman and Augusta (Peterson) Gullings. Â Â
Roy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1943 and married Nancy Millard on June 26, 1943 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Â Some of his fondest memories were of the childhood summers he spent on his maternal grandparents' farm in Minn. Â Roy was a captain in the U.S. Army from 1942 thru 1946, with duties abroad in the Philippines, England, France, and Germany. Â He spent most of his working career as a lubrication consultant for Mobil Oil Corp. Â Roy had a variety of interests, including church, family history, writing, gardening, a good laugh and all things mechanical.
Survivors include his daughter Josephine, granddaughter Lillian, son-in-law Jack, and many relatives on his mother's side. Â He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sat. June 26, 2010, at the EMMANUEL EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 602 12th Ave. East, Alexandria, MN., with the Rev. Kathryn Jeffrey presiding. Â Burial will follow at Lake Ida Lutheran Cemetery. Â The family invites relatives and friends to the memorial service, and in addition, a gathering following the services, for a time of sharing, at Ida Town Hall, 4700 County Road 6 NW, Garfield, MN.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the many friends and professionals who helped Roy these last few years. Â In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Alexandria, First Lutheran Church, Alexandria or the charity of your choice.
