Larry J. Dickerson

Lawrence (Larry) J. Dickerson passed away on May 12, 2025 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg.. He was 83 years old. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen A. (Lane) Dickerson of Madison, WI.

Larry was born on December 3, 1941 in Dover, New Jersey to Kenneth R. and Lillian F. (Lecher) Dickerson. He had three brothers: Frederick O. Dickerson (deceased), George W. Dickerson (deceased), and Lecher R. Dickerson (deceased).

The Dickerson’s moved from their small farm in Union Hill, New Jersey to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1951. Larry graduated from Sandia High School in 1959. He attended the University of New Mexico for two years before becoming a member of the United States Army Security Agency from 1962-1965, where he served as a Communications Specialist in northern Germany.

Larry returned to the University of New Mexico where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. He pursued graduate studies at both San Francisco Theological Seminary and McCormick Theological Seminary (Chicago), and then returned to Albuquerque to begin his career in public broadcasting at KNME-TV.

In 1974, Larry moved to Madison, WI to become the Program Manager of WHA-TV. It was here he met Kathleen, and they were married in 1980. Over the years, he held various positions in Wisconsin Public Broadcasting until his retirement in 2000. During this time, he also worked part-time as an executive recruiter within the public broadcasting industry for the firm of Bornstein and Associates. In his retirement, Larry enjoyed volunteering, travelling, and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; niece Linda (Doug) Bowen; nephew Thomas (Angel) Dickerson; great nieces, Kelsey (Tristan) Lotivio; Jovie and Joslyn Dickerson; great nephew Ryan Bowen; sister-in-law Janice (Wally) Alf,; nieces Stefanie (Tom) Czoschke; Michele (Dave) Gosetti; nephew Jason (Lisa) Alf; great nieces Katelyn Czoschke, Paige Stiemke, Nicole Stiemke, and Emma Alf; great nephews Tyler Czoschke and Elijah Alf.

In deference to the wishes of the deceased, no funeral or memorial services will be held. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross, 4860 Sheboygan Avenue, Madison, WI 53705; Agrace Hospice Care, 5395 E.
