Lawrence Dewey

MADISON - Lawrence Corthell Dewey, age 88, passed away June 5, 2016. Born in Pasadena, CA., he was the son of Lawrence E. Dewey and Alice Thompson Dewey. He was the oldest of three children that included brothers Richard T. (Barbara) Dewey and Robert W. (Barbara) Dewey. He served in the Navy as Seaman 1st Class Great Lakes. Lawrence graduated from Macalester College in 1950 with a BS. He was married to Lois A. Rasmussen on June 10, 1951, they had two children, Michael L. Dewey and Jennifer A. Dewey. Lawrence began working for the family business, PBP (Professional Budget Plan) which became SYCOM in Madison. He served as Director of R&D and was a partner in the company for over 35 years. After the death of Lois, he married Nancy Fowler Rankin. Together, Nancy and Larry enjoyed traveling and many horticultural pursuits including prairie restoration.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Jennifer of Telluride, CO., daughter-in-law Tina Dewey and her two children Alexander and Jacob, Jeffrey (Mary Jane) Rankin of Santa Fe, NM, Janet (Brian) Andraski and their children Allison and Andrew of Minden, NV, and Margaret (John) Riley of Cross Plains.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Richard and Robert and his son Michael.
Lawrence is remembered for his kindness and generosity that flowed beyond his family and into the community and beyond. He had a zest for international travel and a deep appreciation for cultural diversity. He was active in the Friends of the Arboretum, provided grants for musical students at Middleton High School and was a strong supporter of WI Youth Symphony. Lawrence also enjoyed his time volunteering in the Attic Angels community. He will be remembered for his love of family.
There will be no visitation, a private gathering will be held at a later date.
