Lanny C. Dokken

Lanny Clyde Dokken, age 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle

passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2024, in Stoughton.  He was born in Madison on December 14, 1947, and was the fifth of seven children born to the late Russell and Wanda (Atwater) Dokken.  He attended Franklin Elementary and Junior High and graduated from Central High School, class of 1965.  Lanny married the love of his life, Rose Mary Guastella on October 16, 1965.  He went to work at McDonald's and became a manager at the Monona Drive store until taking a position at Madison Metropolitan School District in maintenance at West High School.  From there he went on to work at other school buildings, working his way up to the position of Building Custodian at Memorial High School.  He finished his thirty plus year career with the school district as the Supervisor of Custodial and Grounds.

After his retirement in 2005, he and Rose had time to travel.  Summers were made for fishing in Eagle River with family and friends.   Other adventures took them to Hawaii, Alaska, a cruise to the Caribbean and so many others.   The favorite of all was a trip to the Holy Land with their church family from Lakeview.  They developed lasting friendships wherever they went.

When they weren't traveling, Lanny was busy using his skills doing all things maintenance at his church; or visiting their favorite restaurants or an occasional trip to the casinos.   His lifelong hobbies included Amateur-Ham radio operator, hunting, fishing, and the art of lure making.

Lanny is survived by his loving wife, Rose Mary (Guastella) Dokken; children Russell (Chery) Dokken, Renee Dokken; grandchildren Mark Lindgren, Rachel Lindgren, Dean (Megan) Dokken.  Brothers: Dennis Dokken, Ronald (Maria) Dokken, Terry (Gloria) Dokken and sisters: Bonnie Sanfield, Patty (Robert) Kamienski, Pam (Layne) Close; and is further survived by many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He will be dearly missed by all of us: his friends from work, places they frequented and his UpNorth ‘family’, included.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Russell and Wanda (Atwater) Dokken; his in-laws Russell and Virginia (Giacalone) Guastella; granddaughter, Britta Marie Lindgren, sister-in-law Shirley Dokken.

Please join us to honor Lanny.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Lakeview Church, 2200 Lincoln Avenue, Stoughton with Pastor Andy Fuqua presiding.   Visitation will begin at 9:30 am and memorial service at 11:00 am.  Luncheon following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lakeview Church Building Fund will keep Lanny's passion for building maintenance living on.
