MADISON - Lane Edward Hoag, age 83, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Oakwood Village West, Hebron Oaks. He was born in Milwaukee, WI to Leo and Viola (nee Gallery) Hoag on September 28, 1931. He graduated from Rufus King High School in June of 1949.
Lane married the love of his life, Marilyn Brandt in 1952, spending 62 wonderful years together, raising 3 children. In 1954 he obtained his Real Estate License, working for Hilltop Homes.
Later, Lane worked at the Milwaukee Journal, bundling and sending newspapers in the mechanical department for 10 years. In 1959 he transferred to the State Circulation Department. He relocated to Marinette when he was made Branch Manager. One year later he moved to Racine as Branch Manager of the Journal in WI and Upper Michigan.
In 1965, Lane bought a milk route, which he ran for 13 years, including 2 trucks. He suffered a massive stroke in 1978, after which he returned to school at age 50, obtaining his Associates Degree in Accounting from Waukesha County Technical Institute. He later worked at Lutheran Social Service in Milwaukee, and was elected Town Clerk of Mukwonago.
Lane was a veteran of the National Guard, joining in 1949. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant by 1958 when he was honorably discharged.
Lane is survived by his 3 children, as well as 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
