Bauman, Kristin A.

Madison: Kristin Amalie Bauman passed away on Friday, September 23 of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) at Agrace Hospice. She was born on July 28, 1965 at Madison General Hospital to Conrad and Marlys (Quady) Bauman. She graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in 1983 and from UW-Madison in 1987, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Working at Marshall Fields in Chicago, she met follow Madisonian, Thomas Hornung and they were married at Grace Episcopal Church on February 23, 1991.
Kristin loved her friends, many from her early years, including the "sister she never had", Caroline Shahidi Graham, her sorority sisters, Gap Kids friends, and many others, words - both spoken and written, food - both created and consumed, but most of all her greatest legacy and achievement - her children. She loved volunteering at their schools - Meeting House Nursery School and Queen of Peace School, baking for them, making Halloween costumes, and passing on her love of books to them. Her greatest regret is not being able to do the same for the grandchildren she couldn't live to see.
She is survived by her children, William Hornung of Madison, Caroline Hornung (Charles He) of Wellesley, MA, John Hornung of Madison, her parents Conrad and Marlys Bauman, her brothers Jon (Anne) and Mark and her former husband, Thomas Hornung, all of Madison.
At her request, her brain was donated for research in MSA in the hope a cause, treatment, or cure would be found to save others from the ravages of her disease.
Services will be Friday, September 30 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 401 S. Owen Dr. Madison, WI, 53711 at 11:30 am with a visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will be at Grace Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice, Our Lady Queen of Peace School, or Grace Episcopal Church. Please share a memory of Kristin.
