Kent S. Mannis, age 81, of Madison, WI, passed away on March 4, 2017, after a battle with cancer. He was born on May 29, 1935 in Sparta, WI to parents Harry and Ruth (Mayer) Mannis. Husband to Valerie (Sklar) Mannis for 58 years; father to Marci Mannis and the late Andrea Mannis; grandfather to Breanna Mannis Demont. Kent is further survived by his sister, Leslie Mannis Frederick and brother Daniel Mannis.
Kent graduated from Sparta High School in 1953 Valedictorian, Jr. Class President and Prom King, Best Dancer, Best Dressed and Best Looking and an enthusiastic golfer and basketball player. He leaves behind a treasure trove of his cartoon captions submitted to the New Yorker Magazine which unfortunately they never published.
Kent achieved undergraduate, medical degrees and a Residency in Psychiatry from the University of Wisconsin. He interned at Highland Alameda County Hospital in Oakland, California; and served as a Captain in the U.S. Airforce at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi. Kent was Chief Psychiatrist for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was Clinical Director, Dodge County Human Services, Clinical Director, Juneau County Human Services and Psychiatric Consultant to Sauk County Human Services. He also maintained a private practice in psychiatry for 25 years.

Funeral services, with Rabbi Jonathan Biatch officiating, will be held a Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, Monday, March 6, 2017 at 2 p.m.
