WAUNAKEE - Kenneth J. Laufenberg, age 70, passed away on Monday, March 19th, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.
Ken was born on July 19th, 1941 in Waunakee the son of Joseph and Barbara (Wilke) Laufenberg. On January 12, 1963 he married Nancy Bram in St. Martin's Church, Martinsville. They had two children, Suzy and Rick.
After high school, Ken served in the United States Navy. When he returned, he worked at Ridge Madison Auto Parts and finished his career at Marshall Erdman. Ken and Nancy enjoyed traveling with each other and with their family. Ken also built model railroads and flew model airplanes with his best friend and brother, Joe. Most recently, he took pleasure in relaxing in his new residence overlooking the family farm.
He is survived by his two children, Sue (Joe) Duhr of Waunakee and Rick Laufenberg of Middleton; two grandchildren, Nicole and Katie Duhr; his siblings Joe (Barb), Gary (Sandy), Jim (Patti), Shelby (Walt Hoon), Diane Kelley, Patsy (John Kearney), Kathy (Bob Kuczynski), Debbie (Bryan Dibble), and Shelly (Dave Koeberl). He is also survived by many other loving family and friends. Ken was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, whom he missed dearly; two of his brothers, Dale and Dan, whose generous stem-cell donation gave Ken four extra years of life; his brother-in-law John Kelley; his parents, Joseph and Barbara Laufenberg; and his parents-in-law Nick and Helen Bram.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Maki, his team and the entire staff at the critical care unit at the UW Hospital for their kindness and care.
Funeral services will be held Sat. March 24, 2012 at 11:00a.m. at St John's Catholic Church 209 South St. Waunakee, Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call on Fri. March 23, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Sat. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. at St Martin's Cemetery in Martinsville. The family cannot begin to express their gratitude to everyone during this difficult time. They feel so blessed by the countless and generous acts of kindness and the many thoughts and prayers.
