Kenneth Day

Kenneth Charles Day, 84, of Madison, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

He was born in Old Town, Maine, on August 23, 1938, the son of Edward and Estelle Day. He was stationed in Germany during his military service, was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and held many jobs throughout his life, his favorite being that of tending the dairy herd at the University of Maine, Orono. His greatest pleasures included constructing and spending time at his family’s camp in Maine, cruising the lake in his boat, fishing, feasting on lobster, piecing together jigsaw puzzles, building dollhouses for his granddaughter, and cheering for the New England Patriots and any team quarterbacked by Tom Brady. In 1976 he married Geraldine Mayer and in 1994 moved to Wisconsin. And despite living in the Midwest for 28 years, he never lost his Maine accent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geraldine, brothers Edward, Robert, and Richard Day, and his sister Helen Turner. He is survived by his niece Deborah Kucavich (Steve), nephews Randy and Corey Day, niece Lori Day, granddaughter Autumn Andersson (Martin), grandsons Eric (Beth) and Michael (Wendy) Saindon, stepdaughter Mary Holmes (Brian), and several great-grandchildren.

Our sincerest thanks to the volunteer and nursing staff at Agrace for the comfort, care, and compassion they afforded Ken these last fifteen months. Ken lived among angels named Isabel, and Nancy, and Kaylee, and Monisha, and Stephanie, and so many more.

A visitation will be held at Cress Funeral Service, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Thursday, December 15th at 10 a.m. A memorial service, officiated by Deacon Mark Zwolski, will follow at 11. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Agrace, 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
