Sun Prairie - Kenneth L. Birkholz, age 91, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Karmenta Nursing Home in Madison. He was born on November 25, 1924, in Wonewoc, Wisconsin the son of Louis and Lela (Seflow) Birkholz. Ken was united in marriage to Jessie Petersen on June 17, 1967, in Madison.
He worked at Oscar Mayer for 39 years. After retirement, he and his wife Jessie own and operate Sunnyburke Kennels in Sun Prairie and he loved his dogs. Ken was an avid Badgers, Packers and Brewers fan. He loved his deer hunting season with his sons, brothers and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Birkholz; four sons, Gary (Joanie) of Windsor; James of Madison, Kevin (Dawn) of Oxford and Eric of Berlin; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Patricia Birkholz and her children, Jaden and Ariana Davis of Waukesha, Mike (fianc�e, Renee Klanderman) of DeForest, and Victoria, Hunter and Veronica of Oxford; sisters, Gertrude Lobenstein, Margaret Soma and Bernice Faltersack all of Sun Prairie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gail, stepsons, Kenneth and Edward Beckwith; sisters, Freida, Hilda, and Anna; brothers, Henry, Martin, Edward, Alvin, Carl, Donald and Harvey.
A Funeral service will be held at OUR SAVIOR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 550 Lincoln Drive, Sun Prairie, on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Timothy Hansen officiating. Burial will follow at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
