Kenneth Amacher

Kenneth Fred Amacher, age 93, of Waunakee, died on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Waunakee Manor Nursing Home in Waunakee. Ken was born in Arena, WI on September 16, 1923 to Fred and Hannah (Mellenberger) Amacher. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Griffy) Amacher, on May 4, 1942 in Canton, Missouri. For 31 years, Ken and Dorothy had a farm in rural Sun Prairie, where Ken farmed over 350 acres, while also working for 37 years at Oscar Mayer Co. in Madison. After selling the farm in 1976, they built a home near DeForest, where they resided for 20 years before moving to Waunakee in 1996. Ken enjoyed a good game of euchre, old time country music, dancing, boating, fishing, Milwaukee Brewer baseball games, but most especially spending time with family and friends. Ken was a long-time member of Burke Lutheran Church in Madison.

Survivors include three sons, Dale (Donna) of Verona, David (Janet) of Plano, Texas, and Larry (Ruth) of Medina, Ohio; two sisters, Esther Zander of Ridgeway and Bernice Forbes of Ridgeway, a brother, Walter (Leona) of Rio; twelve grandchildren, Cindy, Debbie, Jason, Anthony, Dana, Jeff, Scott, Michelle, David, Monica, John and Joe; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy, his parents, a son Richard, and a brother and sister, Chris and Mary Lou.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Burke Lutheran Church, 5720 Portage Rd, Madison, Rev. Robert Neubert will preside. Friends may call on Monday, April 10, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery at a later date.

The Amacher family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at Home Health United Hospice and Waunakee Manor Nursing Home in Waunakee, for the care provided to their father. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Burke Lutheran Church Youth Group or Home Health United Hospice.
