Kathleen Pope

August 12, 1947 — March 10, 2015

MOUNT HOREB/WEST MIDDLETON - Kathleen Louise Pope (67) died peacefully on March 10, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born to Arthur Lloyd and Vivian (Tretsven) Pope in Madison, WI on August 12, 1947. She attended the Verona Independent School and then transitioned to center-based employment at the Madison Area Rehabilitation Center (MARC) in Mount Horeb where she worked for over 40 years.
Kathy delighted in all animals and was a lovely singer who knew many songs. She enjoyed Badger Camp and trips to Branson, Chicago, and down the Mississippi River with the staff of her group home who were her travel companions, caretakers, and special friends. Kathy had a ready sense of humor; anyone who knew her eventually had the pleasure of sharing an unbridled bout of giggling, usually at their own expense. Kathy was an amazing teacher: we are forever grateful for the lessons in patience, love, and compassion that we learned from her.
For over 60 years, the family has been moved by the remarkable devotion of those who serve the disabled and the quality of life they created for Kathleen. Even during her final illness, Kim Crisman and the members of "Team Kathy" provided extraordinary care - taking shifts at her bedside, painting her nails, reading, and singing to her. The family wishes to especially thank Amanda Miller (OT), Community Living Connections, the staff at Brian Street, the medical community at St. Mary's, and Agrace Hospice for their attention to Kathy's unique needs.

Kathy's parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her siblings William (Kristy) Pope of Columbus OH, Lucille Pope of Bozeman MT, and Mel (Kristie) Pope of the Town of Middleton, step-mother Elizabeth (Zoerb) Pope, aunt Polly Pope, nieces, nephews, and her Zoerb step-family. We feel so fortunate that she was part of our family.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11 at the West Middleton Lutheran Church on Mineral Point Road with Pastor Ted Lindquist officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30-11 a.m. and a light lunch will follow the service. A private interment is planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the 'MARC Foundation of Dane County' with 'Vivian T. Pope Memorial Award' written on the memo line. This annual award recognizes distinguished service by a MARC employee.
