Kathleen Oncken

Waunakee/ Westport: Kathleen "Kay" Oncken, age 77, Died at her home in Westport on Wed. May 18, 2016 following a long illness. She was born on June 12, 1938 in Janesville, Wi. to Michael and Mildred (Higgins) Young. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1957 and went on to receive her nursing degree from Madison General School of Nursing. She married Robert "Bob" Oncken on Aug 17, 1963 and together they lived in the Westport area. Kay held many jobs over the years. Most notably she drove school bus for the Districts of Waunakee, and Middleton- Cross Plains for over 20 years. She also volunteered as a RSVP driver. She always enjoyed playing euchre, reading and traveling. Kay was an avid Badger, Packer and Brewer fan. Kay was a member of Harbor Athletic Club and afterwards always enjoyed stopping at C's restaurant and visiting with friends and family
Survivors include her husband Bob, a daughter Sharon (Jeff) Kaufman of Madison; her sister Carol (Douglas) Cronin of Waupun; nieces and nephews and a god-daughter Alice Retrum. She was preceded in death by her parents , her in laws George H. and Beatrice Oncken; a brother in law George L ., his wife Barbara Oncken and several aunts ,uncles and cousins
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Lutheran Church 4001 Mandrake Rd. Madison, Rev Dean Kirst will preside. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Waunakee Senior Center.
