Kathleen B. Montgomery

Kathleen Brock Montgomery passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born in 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Robert J. and Ola Napier Brock. She grew up with her parents in Columbia, South Carolina, where friends and relatives survive. Kathleen married Richard Montgomery in Columbia in 1945. She loved the early years of her life in South Carolina with her husband, their sons, and many family and friends. She and Richard and the boys moved to Madison in 1956 -- prompted by the Life Magazine cover article featuring Madison as a great place to live. Most of Kathleen's decendents continue to live in the Madison area.

She was filled with joy when spending time with her family. She truly adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is remembered as one who loved God, and was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Madison where she volunteered regularly and lovingly. Her favorite hymns include How Great Thou Art and Nearer, My God, to Thee. She enjoyed serving her community and helping others. Through her long career she worked at March of Dimes, Bank of Madison, the AIDS Network, Madison General Hospital (Meriter), and local service agencies.

She is survived by her sons Robert (Katie) Montgomery and James (Julie) Montgomery; grandchildren Carrie, Megan, Lisa, James, Angie, Andrew, Jeffrey, Emily, Sam and Jennifer; friend Paula Montgomery, and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard and son David (Rose) Montgomery.

The family would especially like to thank the caring staff of Moments Hospice -- Kelly (her nurse), Crystal (CNA), and Courtney -- for providing meaningful life enrichment in her last years; staff of the Aging and Disability Resource Center for their caring and professional support; and staff of the Cottages for their care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date to be announced.
