Sun Prairie – Kathleen Faye “Kathy” Heuvelman, age 79, passed away on Monday July 10, 2023, at her home in Madison. She was born August 10, 1943, in Coldwater, Kansas. She was the daughter of Otis J. Unruh and Helen (Dirks) Unruh. She grew up on a farm near Wilmore, Kansas and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1961. She received her bachelor’s degree at Emporia State University, Kansas and master’s degrees from the University of Stevens Point and Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee. She worked as a librarian at Ulysses High School in Kansas then as a reference librarian at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 1970 until retiring in 2001.
She married Theodor Heuvelman on February 6, 1996. They lived in Stevens Point until moving to Wausau for six years. In 2018 they moved to Madison, Wisconsin. Kathy loved her pets, music, and reading. She enjoyed annual vacations with a college roommate in different U.S. cities. She was a Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer and served in many church roles including pianist, choir, Sunday School teacher and librarian.
She is survived by her husband Ted; Ted’s sons Michael (Sylvia) of Falls Church, Virginia and Mark of Denver, CO.; granddaughters Sydney and Taryn; and brother Dale Unruh.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
