Katherine “Katie” Pavlue

December 23, 1926 — August 19, 2023

Waunakee

Katherine “Katie” Pavlue, age 96, of Waunakee died on Aug. 19, 2023 after a fall and brief illness. She was born on Dec. 23, 1926 in Madison, WI to John and Katherine (Meek) Gross.  She graduated from Madison West High School in 1944. It was there that she met Ted Pavlue at a dance and married him on Sept. 25, 1948. She worked as a secretary for the State of WI for several years and then became a “stay at home mom” to raise her 4 boys. One of her favorite things to do was to go fishing as a family on Lake Mendota.  In 1985, Ted retired and they moved to Lake WI and lived there for 24 years.  Together they enjoyed sharing the lake with many family and friends and creating life long memories.  After Ted passed away in 1992, she enjoyed traveling with her sister and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Katie loved cooking and baking.  She was famous for her Lemon Meringue pie.  In later years Katie loved playing euchre and bingo.  As she would say "Cards, Cards, Cards!".  She travelled near and far to play.   She was fortunate to drive until she was 95.  She even played bingo 3 days before her passing.  In 2009, Katie moved to Cannery Row Senior living in Waunakee.  She really enjoyed her time there and met many wonderful friends.  She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters at St. James Church in Madison for over 80 years.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles (Rosemary) Pavlue of West Lafayette, IN and Dean (Kristi) Pavlue of Waunakee; 5 grandchildren; Dyana (Fred) Worrell of Sun Prairie, Craig Pavlue of Richardson, TX, Kim (Miguel) Pavlue of Madison, Matt (Rachel) Pavlue of Frederick, CO, and Dan (Jess) Pavlue of Lodi; and 9 great-grandchildren; William, Danny, and Lauren Worrell, Andres and Javi Carrillo-Pavlue, Miguel "Charlie" Hernandez-Pavlue, Nora and Valerie Pavlue, and Graydon Pavlue; and a life-long friend; Isabelle Dressel.  Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; 2 sons, Gary and Jon; and all 8 siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Aug 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in St Mary of the Lake cemetery following services.

A special thank you to her friend Ruth Eternick who helped Katie every day for the last few years.  With Ruth's help Katie was able to continue living independently up until her final month.  In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agrace Hospice.
