June Werren

June 18, 1917 — January 7, 2014

June Eva Werren (Paynter) died peacefully on January 7 at Sebring Assisted living in Madison, Wisconsin. She lived a remarkable 96 years.

June grew up in Madison, the daughter of Lawrence and Mae Paynter. She was an "East Side" girl, graduating from East High School and then attending classes at the University of Wisconsin and Madison Business College. She met her husband, Fred Werren just prior to World War Two, and they were married in 1941 before Fred joined the Navy. They eventually settled in Madison, where June stayed home to raise their four children. They were married for 64 years before Fred died in 2005.

After retirement, they enjoyed traveling, taking advantage of Elder Hostel trips wherever it took them. But their favorite destinations were the months spent at their north woods cottage in Manitowish Waters WI, and in Englewood Florida. June enjoyed golf and she was always up for a coffee "clutch" and a good game of bridge. She had many, many friends, and these friends kept her youthful well into her 90's.

June was predeceased by her husband Fred, parents Lawrence and Mae Paynter, and brothers Donald and DuWayne Paynter. She leaves behind her children; Phil Werren Toronto Canada, Susan Spencer (Jerry) Asheville NC, Nancy Werth (Scott),Fitchburg WI and David Werren (Meg),Manitowish Waters WI. She will be missed and well remembered by her 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Bette Paynter, Metairie LA, Hedy Werren, Madison, Rosemary Werren, Madison, and a brother-in-law Ernie Werren, Denver, CO.

Private services will be held at a future date for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in June's memory may be made to Agrace Hospice of Fitchburg or the charity of one's choice.

You might remember June for her enjoyment of her long and fulfilling life, of family, and of friends. When you brew your cup of coffee or deal that game of bridge, remember one of June's classic pieces of wisdom: "In case you run into an alligator while on the golf course, be sure to run zig-zag rather than in a straight line".
