June M. Sweitzer

June 16, 1928 — January 28, 2011

June M. Sweitzer died peacefully on Friday, January 28, 2011.   June and her identical twin sister, Jean (Steffen), were born June 16, 1928, the daughters of Ray (Pat) and Selma (Babler) Schoonover.   She grew up in Monticello and Monroe. June graduated from the UW-Madison in 1950, and taught kindergarten for 7 years in Milwaukee and Madison.   She married Larry Sweitzer in 1956, and they raised their 4 children in Madison.   June contributed her time and energy to the United Way, as elder and deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, gave tours of Madison for the Madison Convention Bureau and most recently volunteered for the American Red Cross with her sister Jean, with whom she remained extremely close throughout her life.   June is preceded in death by her husband, Larry, and her older brother, Richard.   She is survived by her four children, Julie (Steve Kahlenbeck) of St. Louis Park, MN, Sally of Madison, Laurie (Bill) Hentges of Reedsburg, and David (Susan) of Madison, and her grandchildren Andrew, Edie, Kali, Josie, Emily, Ashley, Cole and Hudson.   Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 31, at WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 4100 Nakoma Road, Madison with the Rev. Alex Thornberg officiating.   Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.   Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 6021 University Avenue, Madison.   Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, HospiceCare Inc. or the American Red Cross.   The family wishes to thank the staff of HospiceCare for their tender care of June in her last days.
