Sun Prairie
June J. Dartt, age 89, passed away with her family by her side at Oakwood East on May 30, 2014. She was born on June 1, 1924 in Randolph, Wisconsin, to Chester and Evelyn (Richter) Bowden.
June worked in Fort Atkinson during the war years, as a government inspector of airplanes. This was a position that made her especially proud, because as a woman, she had to surpass many men to secure the job. June was united in marriage to Hollis L. Dartt on December 9, 1944 in Waterloo. In 1949, they moved to Sun Prairie.
Much later, June was a bookkeeper and "go-fer" for the family plumbing business, Dartt Plumbing and Heating. She was an extremely active community member, volunteering with a number of groups including: Brownie/Girl Scout leader for many years, Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, helped to begin the Golden Agers that evolved into the Colonial Club, Eastern Star Twilight Chapter, American Legion Auxiliary, VA Hospital for countless hours volunteering with Holly, Job's Daughters, and the Sun Prairie Historical Society Museum. June and Hollis were charter members of the Sun Prairie Band Boosters and took great pride in each of the members and their accomplishments. She was affectionately known as "Grandma June" amongst children at church and the Prairie Athletic Club, and as "June Bug" by many special staff members where she resided. June enjoyed Bible study, fancy work and gardening, especially her wonderful raspberries. She was known for her marvelous homemade baked beans and peach pies!
June is survived by her three children; Kathleen (Arthur) Molvik, Thomas (Kevin) Dartt, and Cynthia (Thomas) Floodstrand; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, and her sister Dorothy Borck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Holly, and brother Robert.
A celebration of June's life will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Oakwood East, Tree of Life Chapel 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison with Rev. John Hobbins and Rev. Amanda Stein officiating. A visitation will start at 10 am. Graveside services will be held later that day at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dorothy Baltes as a neighbor extraordinaire. At the nursing home, her life was brightened by the 'sisterhood' of Bobbi, Doryan, Pat, and Charlotte, as well as Bill's cheerful "June Bug" greetings. And thanks to the many staff at Oakwood, who took the extra time to give June compassionate care and to Meagan, RN and the Sapphire team at Agrace Hospice for their assistance with her pain control.
