Junco-Meyer Victoria

Madison-Victoria Junco-Meyer, loving wife, devoted mother and adoring grandmother, died on January 10, 2016, at age 101.

Victoria was born in Mexico in 1914, to Modesto Junco and Mar�a Posadas. She was the second of five children and spent her childhood in Mexico. After graduating high school, Victoria attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City, eventually earning her PhD in philosophy. She was a Spanish teacher at the UNAM then later at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. She would return to Mexico over summer vacations to teach at the UNAM.

It was in the summer of 1948 that she met her future husband, Paul Meyer, a World War II veteran and Wisconsin native, who had gone to Mexico to learn Spanish on an exchange program through the UW-Madison. Their summer romance blossomed quickly and they were married in December of 1948. Victoria and Paul were married for over 52 years and had four children.

Victoria spent the better part of 25 years teaching at the UW-Madison in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. She also volunteered as a docent at the Elvehjem Museum of Art for many years and was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.

When she retired, she and Paul would find adventure in traveling but also in doting on their beloved grandchildren. The two attended many of their grandchildren's school and after school events and devoted themselves to being active and involved in their everyday lives.

Victoria is survived by three of her four children; Pablo, Mar�a, and Elena (Paul) and by her grandchildren; Portia, Eric, Jaime, Tom�s, Miguel (Michelle), M�nica (Rick), and Natalia. She was preceded in death by her son Tom�s and her husband Paul.

A mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, January 29, at 11:00 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2121 Rowley Ave., Madison with Father James V. Marchionda presiding. Visitation will begin at 10:00 until time of service at Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Child Fund International or any other charity in Victoria's name.
