Waunakee-Julius John Pertzborn, age 96, died on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Waunakee Manor. He was born on December 20, 1915 to Theodore & Elizabeth (Grosse) Pertzborn. On February 21, 1944 he was united in marriage to the former Margaret Frederick at St. Martins Catholic Church, Martinsville. They farmed East of Waunakee where they managed a farm for Dr. Sisk on what is now the Savannah Village Complex. In 1951 they purchased and farmed the family homestead which this year marks a century in the Pertzborn family. In 1965 he went to work at the State Animal Health Lab where he continued using his FARMING SKILLS taking care of lab animals. He took great pride in his work; always doing his best and being very neat with whatever he did. They moved in 1969 to Martinsville and then in 1994 moved to Waunakee. Julius retired in 1980 and together with his wife enjoyed a long and WELL-EARNED retirement after all their years of hard work. After moving to Waunakee he became a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In his spare time he enjoyed a good game of euchre with his card playing buddies, old time country music (especially Johnny Cash), Starlight Mints, Dark Chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (Dark Chocolate has less calories) and a big fan of the Milwaukee Brewers. Football didn't make any sense to him. He could never understand why all those players piled on top of one guy. While a resident at the manor he enjoyed Uncle Ozzie & Jessie Walker when they played there. Survivors include two children, Don (Suzi) Pertzborn and Cathy (Stan) Dohm both of Dane; daughter-in-law, Judy Pertzborn, Verona; his seven grandchildren, Jennie (Jeff) Comstock, Austin, TX, Mandy Pertzborn, Madison, Megan Pertzborn, Austin, TX, Don Jr (Tonya) Pertzborn, Martinsville, Kevin (Erin) Pertzborn, Cross Plains, Mark (Vicki) Dohm, Dane and Jeff Dohm, Lodi; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister Vi (Norbert) Buechner; a brother Ted (Cathy) Pertzborn; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret this past April; his son, Fred, who passed away in March 2010; his sisters, Odelia (Bernie) Soehnlein, Etta (Ray) Kuehn, Sr. Agnes Pertzborn, Sr. Delores Pertzborn & Elizabeth Pertzborn; brothers Leo, Roman, Werner & John; sisters-in-law, Marie (Leo) Noltner, Helen (Nick) Bram & Ann (Tom) Ray. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 2-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will be held in St. Martins Catholic Cemetery. We would like to thank Dr. Ranum for his loving care of dad over the years. Also, the caring staff at the Waunakee Manor for their tender and loving care of dad during his stay there. Thank you also to Msgr. James Gunn and the staff at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for tending to dad's spiritual needs. Dad, many times you felt that you weren't successful because you didn't make a lot of money. What is success? It's taking care of your family by working hard, loving them and serving God. What a successful person you were Dad. Dad, Mom, Fred, we miss you and love you dearly. Until we meet again.
