Julia Declark

September 30, 1924 — July 20, 2016

Kingsford, Michigan / Waunakee - Julia M. DeClark, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Homestead Living in Waunakee. She was born Sept. 30, 1924 in Bessemer, MI., the daughter of the late Matt and Velma Puranen. Julia is a graduate of Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, MI., and also a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Madison as a Registered Nurse. She married Donald DeClark on Sept. 6, 1952. As active longtime member for many years at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford, MI., she was a member of the Ladies Guild and Alter Guild. Most recently she attended Peace Lutheran in Waunakee. Julia was also active with the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Women's Club, Dickenson County Memorial Hospital League, Chippewa Club, Pine Grove Country Club, and the Oak Crest Golf Club. She also was a Hospice Volunteer. Julia enjoyed golf, was an avid competitive Bridge player, and loved reading.
Julia is survived by her son Craig (Linda) DeClark of Buffalo Grove, IL., daughter Cynthia "Cindy" (Douglas) Rykal of Waunakee; 6 grandchildren Tricia, Tiffany, and Kirsten DeClark, Brian, Megan, and Rachel Rykal; 4 great grandchildren Addison, MacKenzie, Colin, and Joliet. She is further survived by a brother Clarence Puranen of Reedsburg, Sister Elsie (Charles) Morey of Pensacola, FL.,
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years Donald; brothers Eino (Dora) Puranen, and Ray Puranen, Sisters Inez Hakala, Irene Bristol, Ambi Waurio, Sylvia Kotila, and a sister-in-law Katy Puranen.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday July 23, 2016 at PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 701 Century Ave. Waunakee, with Pastor Doug Locken and Pastor Karen Locken presiding. Desserts to be served following the service in Fellowship Hall. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the service on Saturday at the church. Burial of her urn will take place at a later date in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain Michigan.
The family would like to thank Homestead Living for the quality of life Julia enjoyed while with them, and also Agrace HospiceCare for their end of life care and support of the family.
