Judith Anna Moniak (Paul)
December 13, 1937- June 30, 2018
Judith Anna Moniak (née Paul) died Saturday, June 30, 2018 at New Perspectives in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin under the care of AgraceCare Hospice Services. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at a later date in Illinois.
Judy was born December 13, 1937 in Edgerton, Wisconsin to John Alexander and Maxine Vail Paul. She grew up in Milton, Wisconsin enjoying her childhood years on Vernal Avenue with best friend, Mary Lindmark Bauer and cousin Ellen Munson. After the tragic death of Judy's father, John Paul, on April 4, 1951, she attended St. Clara Academy in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin and graduated in 1955. Judy had fond memories of Sister Marie Peter who helped guide her through her adolescent years. Judy remained close with her Sinsinawa roommate, Gina Demos.
Following high school, Judy attended Milton College for one year before attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Her Uncle Paul Vail (Eleanor), who was a professor in the Department of Economics, provided a wonderful and supportive environment to spark Judy's desire to be a lifelong learner of art, architecture, music, cultures and politics. Judy graduated from Miami University in 1959 and stayed close with her college roommate, Sue Liefeld.
Judy was married in 1961 and moved to Hinsdale, Illinois in 1962 where she started her family. John Paul (1965), Paul Vail (1967) and Jane Elizabeth (1971) were born, raised and educated in Hinsdale. She was later divorced in 1979. Judy was active in Village Associates, Meals on Wheels and PEO. Her Fridays were busy with trips into the city to see The Chicago Symphony Orchestra perform. Judy was fortunate to enjoy many trips abroad with The Art Institute of Chicago thus continuing her quest for knowledge of art, architecture and world cultures. Judy began everyday reading three newspapers to thoroughly understand the events of the world. Her afternoons would consist of reading novels, trying new recipes, listening to NPR and walking her beloved wire fox terriers, Grover, Archie and Alex.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, John (1951) and Maxine (1983), and infant daughter (1964). She is survived by her three loving children, John (Lynn) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Paul of Chicago, Illinois and Jane Jurgensen (Mark) of Ames, Iowa; and her five energetic and dedicated grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Paul Richard Moniak, and Atticus John, Eliot Max and Ian Vail Jurgensen.
Judy's family is eternally grateful for her circle of friends and neighbors, Gail and Richard Pearson, Ruth and Bob Vogele, Mary and George Hallenbeck, Rubén and Carolina Alarcón, Brian and Serena DiCianni and Kevin Brennan. Special thanks to the staff of New Perspectives and Agrace Hospice for the exceptional care they provided Judy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed toward New Perspective Senior Living of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, AgraceCare Hospice Care of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, The Alzheimer's Association or Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
