Joyce Lowe

Joyce Lowe, age 97, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Girlie's Manor in Mount Horeb. She was born on November 27, 1919 in the Town of Cross Plains, the daughter of Laura (Swenson) and Aldrew Lowe.

Joyce was a resident of Madison since 1935 and was a true "Madisonian" who loved the city, especially the Badgers, and took pride in staying current on its changes and developments. After graduating from West High School and attending UW-Madison, Joyce worked for the Wisconsin Supreme Court for 30 years as an Administrative Assistant.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, American Business Women's Association (named Woman of the Year in 2003), a charter member of Four Lakes Secretaries Association, Madison Elks Lodge #410 and Elks Ladies Auxiliary, Republican Women of Dane County, and Bethel XYZ.

Joyce was a grand lady, so special in so many ways that mere words fail to adequately describe her. She was generous to a fault, always giving of herself and eager to help in any way she could. Visitors to Joyce's home never left without receiving cookies, candy, or whatever treat she had on hand! She was the original "social butterfly" and her wall calendar, with penned daily reminders of appointments, meetings, lunch dates and more, was a testament to her active lifestyle and her love of friends and family.

We are grateful to many special friends, all of whom have loved, cared for, and laughed with Joyce. How blessed she was to have each of you in her life. To say that this beautiful woman, who so desperately loved life, will be missed is a huge understatement. Go with God Joyce, you are now Heaven's blessed gain.

Joyce is survived by first cousins, Willard (Pat) Sandilands, South Bend, IN, and Gordon (Liz) Becker, Madison; and many other special cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and very special friend, Milton Fergen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison with Reverend John Swanson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A reception will follow the service. Private burial will be in Mount Horeb Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison Elks Lodge #410, or a charity of your choice.
