Joyce Mathilda (Klemp) Haugen, age 85 passed away on Friday November 08, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on September 20th, 1939, in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Eric and Elaine (Kuhnert) Klemp.

Joyce graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1958. She was active in the Orchestra where she played the violin. She also enjoyed archery along with tennis.

After graduating from high school, Joyce went to Beauty School in Madison, WI in 1959. During this time, a classmate introduced Joyce to her future husband to be (David P. Haugen) in 1960. After obtaining her barbering & cosmetology license Joyce worked at “The Beauty Plaza” located in the Moreland Plaza Shopping Center in Waukesha, WI for 4 ½ years.

Joyce and David resided in Waunakee where they raised their three children. Joyce’s greatest love was for her family. She would say nothing is more important than family.

She enjoyed taking family trips, bicycling, getting together for Sunday brunch and having her family together for the yearly holidays. She enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren and her great granddaughter. She was very proud of them all.

Joyce’s love of playing the piano began when her mother taught her and her two sisters how to play the piano. Joyce also fostered the love of music with her children, grandchildren and her great granddaughter.

When retired, Joyce and David went on many bus trips. Some of the different places they went were Georgia, Maine, Colorado, along with Tennessee. Both Joyce and David enjoyed the adventures and seeing the beauty in each state.

Joyce was an avid knitter, crocheter, quilter, cross stitcher, along with an embroiderer. Over the years Joyce made many items for family and friends to enjoy. Joyce joined a woman’s group to share her knitting talents to create prayer shawls.

Joyce was part of the J.U.L.I.E.Ts (Just Us Ladies Idle Every Thursday) at the Waunakee Community Center where coffee, good conversations, and laughter was a weekly event. Joyce met and made many good friends over the years.

Joyce always had a kind word to say and was always inviting to everyone. Joyce’s witty sense of humor, her advice, a listening ear, her hugs and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
