Joyce Furchtenicht

MADISON - Joyce R. Furchtenicht, age 89, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison. She was born June 20, 1925 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Leon and Henrietta (Guetzkow) Reed. She grew up in Wauwatosa, graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1943, attended Carroll College in Waukesha and graduated from Milwaukee-Downer College in 1947 with a degree in Art, began a Masters program at UW-Madison and married Richard Furchtenicht on Nov. 11, 1950 in Wauwatosa. Joyce taught Art in Watertown schools, 3rd grade for a couple of years at Nichols School in Monona, and 1st grade in Ft. Smith, Ark., while her husband was stationed there with the U.S. Army. She is survived by her son, Alan (Eva), and daughter, Jane Ferguson, both of Madison, and grandchildren, Daniel Ferguson of Corvallis, Oregon and Sylvia (Sam) Kidder of Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Graveside services for Joyce will be held at FOREST HILL CEMETERY, 1 Speedway Road, at 1:00 PM on Wednesday March 25, 2015. The Rev. Christine Bethke of Wellspring United Methodist Church will officiate.
