Joy Dawson

MADISON:
Joy W. Dawson, age 86, passed away on October 18, 2016 at Sebring Assisted Living.

She was born on October 11th, 1930 in Ashland, Wi, the daughter of Willis and Martha Welker. Joy graduated from Ashland High School with the class of 1948 and then attended Lawrence University where she graduated with a degree in Music Education. She married William M. Dawson in August of 1953. They began their married life in Madison, Wi and then moved to Stevens Point for 7 years. In 1966 they moved back to Madison, where Joy worked for the Madison School District Music Department with the majority of years as the music teacher at Crestwood Elementary School. Her love of music was evident in the yearly all-school programs she put together each year. Joy touched the lives of many children and loved her years with the students and staff at Crestwood. Joy was an avid Badger and Packer fan; she would listen to a game on the radio while watching another one on TV!

Joy is survived by her children, Cathy (Charlie) Krula and Bill (Beth) Dawson; grandchildren Molly Krula, Jamie Krula, Tyler Krula, Christopher Dawson, and Carly Dawson; and great grandson Camden.

Joy was preceded in death and looks forward to seeing again her husband, Bill; her twin sister, Janet; sisters Mary Jean and Catherine; and her parents.

A special, loving thank you goes out to all the staff and "family" at Sebring Assisted Living for the care and friendship they offered Joy these past 3 years.

A visitation will be held from 11AM to 1PM on Sunday, November 13th, 2016 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to be made to the Music Dept at Crestwood Elementary School; 5930 Old Sauk Rd; Madison, Wi 53705
