'JJ' Jeffris passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 24, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Lynne Jeffris of Sun Prairie. Josephine D. Jeffris known as 'Jo' or 'JJ' was born the first child, August 21, 1921 in Philadelphia to parents Sophie and Edward. Three sisters Jane, Jean, Helen, and one brother Edward, preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy.
JJ was married in Philadelphia November 2, 1944 to Kenneth F. Jeffris who was a member of the Marine Air Corps during WW II. While they were stationed in Memphis, TN, May of 1945, their son, Jeffrey A. Jeffris was born. After living in Madison while Kenneth completed his education at UW Madison, the family lived in Janesville, WI, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and finally in Glen Ellyn, IL.
Following her divorce from Kenneth in 1968 JJ, worked in Glen Ellyn, IL as a copy editor on the local newspaper and with Crown Life Insurance Company. In 1988, JJ was moved to Alexandria, VA with Crown Life. When this company moved out of the US, around 1990, JJ obtained the position of receptionist with the engineering firm Earthtech located in Alexandria. She subsequently worked her way up to Administrative Assistant and remained with this firm until AE-Com bought out Earthtech around 2000. JJ retained this position until her 'reassignment' as parttime employee. June of 2011, JJ left Alexandria and moved permanently to Sun Prairie to live with her son Jeff and daughter-in-law, Lynne. Additionally JJ is survived by three grandchildren, Laura (Al) Lantz Waukesha, Elizabeth Porter Sun Prairie, Robert (Tricia) Jeffris of Brown Deer, WI, and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Lantz age 6, Dustin Porter age 10, and Dylan Porter age 8.
JJ was especially loved and appreciated by her co-workers who enjoyed her sunny disposition and creative way of dressing. She received many heartfelt messages upon leaving Virginia to move to Wisconsin. Though JJ never missed the three H's, Hazy, Hot, and Humid of the Washington DC area, her family will miss her quaint sayings, "Love Hugs", "Hump Day", "Happy Day", and being "On Vacation".
It was JJ's wishes that she be cremated and that no memorial service or funeral be held.
