Joseph Gabriel Stoff passed away unexpectedly at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI, on
Thursday, January 15th, 2026. He was 77 years old.
In early 2019, it was determined that Joe needed a pacemaker and defibrillator.
Eventually, it led to additional health issues, in which his health started to decline.
Joseph (better known as Joe) Stoff was born in Landshut, Germany, on March 21st, 1948.
He immigrated to the United States with his parents and brother at the age of 3, in the
year 1951. He had been a long-time resident of Madison, WI; however, he also lived in
Racine, North Chicago, Loves Park, Rockford, IL, and Phoenix, AZ.
Joe was married to Dianne Day from 1973 to 2010, from this marriage came two beautiful
sons they raised together, Damon and Jason Stoff. Joe was self-employed and shared his
trades knowledge with his sons, teaching them practical skills and important life lessons as
a father does.
Joe, affectionately known as Uncle Joe, was known for his infectious smile and cheerful
personality that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Well-loved by many, his
warmth and kindness were evident in his many life-long friendships, a testament to the
positive influence he had on everyone around him.
Joe valued time with his family and friends, often visiting them for weekends. He had a
love of the outdoors, enjoying Jehovah’s creations, especially while camping. He also
enjoyed sports like basketball, often playing with his sons and friends.
Joe graduated from Park High School in 1966 and was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness
on February 2, 1968. In his earlier years, Brother Stoff served as a regular pioneer and an
elder. He was a member of the South Congregation in Madison, WI. Known for his deep
spirituality and dedication to Bible study, his faith formed the foundation of his character
and guided his conduct throughout his life. Joe will be remembered for the warmth and
sincerity with which he shared his beliefs and for his effectiveness as a Bible teacher,
helping many to understand and come to love Bible truths.
Joe will be lovingly remembered and missed by his two sons Damon and Jason Stoff,
sister Susie, (Marvin) Brown, nieces Lana (Tony) Buches, Sheila Stoff, Tyana Brown,
nephews, Zoltan (Nikki) Stoff, Tye Brown, sister-in-law Valorie Stoff, 16 great nieces and
nephews, and 9 great-great nieces and nephews and a host of cherished friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Zoltan and Irene Stoff,
and brother Zoltan Stoff.
Joe fought the fine fight, ran the race to the finish, and observed the faith.
(2 Timothy 4:7) He now rests in Jehovah God’s memory, awaiting the resurrection to be
amongst the meek who will inherit the earth. ( Job 14:13-15, Revelation 21:7).
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3082 Herman
