Joseph "Joe" W. Decker

Joseph “Joe” Decker, age 82, of Stoughton passed away on Sunday October 18, 2026.

He was born on December 15, 1943, in Baraboo, the son of Alva and Elsie (Katchinska) Decker.

Joe graduated from Stoughton High School in 1963. In addition to high school, Joe went to several trade seminars and earned certificates for completing training for his work in the automotive field.

Joe served in the Army National Guard from 1963 – 1969.

Joe worked as an A+ automotive technician for 50 years. He started his career as a Volkswagen technician in Baraboo and ended his career as a Toyota technician in Madison. He worked at a job he truly loved. His greatest satisfaction was tuning a car destined for the junk yard into an auto that “purred like a kitten.” He always tried to repair rather than replace.

In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, especially trips to Canada for walleye fishing.

In addition, he enjoyed gardening. He was especially proud of his strawberry bed.

Another interest Joe had was doing handyman projects. He and his wife Marjorie renovated 5 starter houses. What started out as a mess turned into a lovely home.

Joe married Marjorie Hadley on March 7, 1970, in Baraboo at the Methodist Church on the square.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years Marjorie and his son Matthew. He is also survived by a nephew Stuart Stevens of Reedsburg, niece Joan Stevens of Baraboo, and numerous cousins and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents Elmo and Tess Decker, his parents Alva and Elsie Decker, his stepmother Mary Decker, his sisters Diana Decker and Carmen Janecek, his sons Curtis and Thad Decker, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday November 13, 2026, at the LaFarge Free Methodist Church, 214 S. Cherry St. LaFarge, WI 54639 with burial at Bear Creek Cemetery with military honors.

Joe, you will always be in our hearts.
