John Thompson

Sun Prairie/Windsor- John Frank Thompson, Jr., age 90, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. He was born on April 3, 1922 in the Township of Bristol the son of John & Alma (Straus) Thompson. John was united in marriage with Janice M. Irvin on October 27, 1956 in Madison celebrating 56 years of marriage this Saturday. He was a lifelong resident of the Sun Prairie area graduating from Sun Prairie High School, Class of 1940. In 1941 he started as an apprentice Tool & Die Maker @ Wisconsin Porcelain Co. Sun Prairie. John answered the call of duty in November of 1942 with the US Army. He was sent to European Theater during WW II and served with the 36th Amphibious Engineers, participating in battles of Africa, Sicily, Salarno, Anzio and Southern France. Upon his horary discharge from the service he took a job with the State of Wisconsin in 1949 working for the Physics Department at the University of Wisconsin. He was employed as student shop supervisor retiring in 1986. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing things and travelling. John is survived by his wife, Janice; his sons, Dale (Mary Tagliarino) Thompson and Bruce Thompson; his grandchildren, Nicholas & Veronica Thompson; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Edith Duschack and Katherine Wolf. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 3416 Swansee Ridge, (Corner of Hwy C and U.S. 19), Sun Prairie with Father Michael Tess officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. A special thank you to the staff of Agrace HospiceCare for their wonderful care.
