MADISON
John "Jack" Henry Sheskey passed away, Saturday, January 31, 2015, surrounded by family. He was born April 24, 1929 in Lost Lake, WI to Henry and Johanna "Jennie" (Biel) Sheskey.
John grew up on a dairy farm and joined the Navy, 1948-1952. He was on a destroyer in a Japanese harbor when the Korean War broke out. John joined the Police Department with the 1953 recruit class and retired after 30 years of service as a Detective Supervisor in the Youth Aid Section. He married Twila Guenther in 1959 and they were blessed with 7 children. John also returned to the military as a reservist in 1964 and served time in the Coast Guard, Army Guard, and Army Reserves. At the end of his military career in 1989, he had risen to the grade of E-8. In his retirement John volunteered with the RSVP organization as a driver, and with the Latin American Mission Program (LAMP), making trips to Mexico to bring needed supplies and clothes to the poor.
Later, he and his wife traveled all over the Third World helping out on many medical mission trips. Dad was a wonderful character who was always ready with a joke, pun, or a funny story. Although Alzheimer's disease affected his life, through most of it he kept his sense of humor, his love of time spent with family, and his enjoyment of telling jokes and conversing with people he met.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Twila; daughters, Angie, Barb (Jeff Maly), Catherine (Nadeem Siddiqui); sons, Dennis (Li-Chuang "Lisa"), Ed (Nick Vogel), Gary (Pranee); sister, Genevieve Goeller; and brother, Francis "Joe"; grandchildren, Jamie and Ellen Sheskey, Chris and Jennie Maly, and Joey and Johnny Sheskey; along with nieces, nephews, and many relatives. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Faye Ellen (1968), parents, and sisters, Rosemary, Betty Hopp, Henrietta Nielsen, and brother, Maurice.
