John Lohrentz

MADISON - John Michael "Jack" Lohrentz, age 74, died after a brief and sudden illness at UW Hospital on Tuesday Nov. 24, 2015. He was born May 16, 1941 in Berwyn, IL. the son of the late Alfred and Grace (Volkens) Lohrentz. Jack graduated from Michigan State University in 1963 with a degree in Urban Planning, and later went back to school to receive his Master's Degree in Public Administration from UW Madison in 1982. He married Mary Van Natta on Oct. 19, 1963 in Oak Park, IL. He worked in the Eau Clare area as a Regional Planning Director for ten years before moving to Madison to work for the State Historical Society from 1983 to his retirement in 2003.
Jack was an active member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities over the years. He loved being with his family, traveling with his wife, time in Door County, woodworking, biking, golf, and bowling. Jack was a great help to his wife Mary with her antiques business.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mary; 3 children, Kristin Lohrentz, John Lohrentz, and Eric (Misty) Lohrentz; 5 grandchildren, Margaret, Gerard and Caroline Riordan, Hayden and Everett Lohrentz; brother Donald (Joyce) Lohrentz; sister Nancy (L. James) Hathhorn; and Jack is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Robert (Helen) Lohrentz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midvale Community Lutheran Church, or to Lutheran Counseling and Family Services, 3800 N Mayfair Rd, Wauwatosa, WI 53222.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison with Rev. Katie Baardseth and Rev. Blake Rohrer presiding. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday November 30, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison and also from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church.
