John Hougan

Stoughton - John R. Hougan, age 64 God called a great man to be one of his angels on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. He was born on February 26, 1950 in Stoughton, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Inez (Phillips) Hougan. On March 3, 1979, John was united in marriage to Wanda "Wendy" Starks. John had a playful spirit, taught many people how to live life, be happy, enjoy every moment and showed people how to still act like a kid no matter how old you were. He was known to his nieces and nephews as, "Naughty Boy John". Most of all, he was a wonderful and loving husband and outstanding father and best friend to his daughter, Ellie. Family was important to John and more importantly the love of family. He always looked forward to hosting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
He was an electrician and operated his own business for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed being a hobby farmer, animals, an avid collector of many treasures from all the garage sales he would attend and always a good hand of Euchre. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Wanda "Wendy" Hougan, daughter and best friend, Ellie Hougan, his parents; Robert and Inez Hougan, brother; James (Ann) Hougan, two sisters; Janet Hougan Johnson and Jean (Marty) Lamers, sister-in-law; Elizabeth (Dan) Wiese, brother-in-law; Robert (Julie) Starks, 15 nieces and nephews; Robert (Nicole) Lamers, Rachel (Lance) Royston, Bringa Johnson, Toren Johnson, Seth Johnson, Emily (Mike) Heebe, Andrew (Jodi) Hougan, Charles (Elise) Hougan, Natalya (Jeff) Jacobson, Timothy (Donna) Wiese, Steven (Deanna) Wiese, Nathan (Nic) Starks, Nicole (Adam) Starks, Julia Kimbel, Joe (Ashley) Starks, 20 great nieces and nephews, and his step grandfather; Godfried Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Ole and Bessie Hougan, his maternal grandparents; Grace Schmidt and Maurice Phillips and his mother-in-law and father-in-law; Nelson and Laura Starks.
Funeral services will be held at WESTERN KOSHKONONG LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2633 Church Street, Cottage Grove on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00 am with Reverend Thomas Heyn officiating. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 206 W. Prospect Ave, Stoughton on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and again at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of services. Graveside services will be held on Saturday following the service at Western Koshkonong Church Cemetery.
