Verona - John P. Hendrickson, Jr., age 64 of Verona passed away Friday, November 3 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg,WI.
John was born in Madison on August 26, 1953 to John and Eunice (Sommers) Hendrickson. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1971 and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison studying history. Later, he went to work for his father at E. W. Parker Jewelers and continued until the store closed in 2003, the store's 147th year. In 1978, he attended the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, California earning certification in Diamonds and Diamond grading.
John continued his love of history by co-sponsoring a historical Madison photo exhibit annually at E. W. Parker Jewelers, located on Madison's capital square. He also appeared on the Antiques Road Show featuring 40 Civil War photos of members of his great-great grandfather's unit (Jerome E. Hendrickson). The unit was the 6th Wisconsin Light Artilliary in the Wisconsin River Valley from Saul City to the Lone Rock area.
John is survived by his brother, David (Cindy) Hendrickson; sisters, Liz (Ron) Byers and Susan (Bill) Pleus; nieces and nephews, Rebecca, Stephanie, & Jessica Hendrickson, Jim (Anne-Marie) Byers, Lynn (Brian) Andersen, Sarah (Kevin) Bagstad, Ronnie Byers and Eric Pleus. He is also survived by his cousins Jeff and Fred Marsh, Linda (Gjestson) Zoellick, Jeff, Tom, and Peter Mucks, Jill Sommers, and Patty (Johnson) Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Adam Pleus.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with visitation starting at 11 am.
