Fitchburg/Madison- John Alton Hansen, age 81, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014, at his home in Fitchburg. He was born on May 7, 1933 in Lajunta, Colorado, the son of Alton S. and Ora (Packer) Hansen. John attended Marmion Academy and the Virginia Military Institute, later becoming an officer in the United States Navy. He received his law degree from Marquette University. He later became a senior partner of Stafford, Rosenbaum, Reiser and Hansen Law Firm in Madison. John was also a member of Trial Lawyers of America.
John will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor, love of traveling, playing chess, listening to John Phillip Souza and classical music and completing crossword puzzles. He loved all sports and had an interesting golf game. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, James P. Hansen of Omaha, Neb., Julie (Michael) Magers of Fond du Lac, Kathryn (Matt) Baker of Barneveld, Steven J. Hansen of Madison; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lenore Jorgenson and Bev Merrill.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. and at church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the mass.
