August 19, 1936 — September 4, 2010

Joette B. Barnhart (Pollock), age 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at her home in Madison.   Joette was born on August 19, 1936, the daughter of Earl and Mimadelle Pollock, in Madison.   She was united in marriage to Karl Barnhart on October 13, 1956.   Joette and Karl were the loving parents of two daughters, Mary Ellen and Elise, and a son, Eric.     Joette was an extraordinary woman of strength, grace, humor, and love, qualities which endured through illness and adversity.   She was a devoted daughter, sister, and wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.   Joette is survived by her children, Mary Ellen (John) Feuling; Elise (Ken) Cole; and Eric (Jodi) Barnhart.   She is further survived by her grandchildren Kate, Lauren, Kellie (Brian), Marcus (Collette), Claire, Christian, Cameron, Kaleb, and Riley; her great-grandchildren Michael, Mathew, and Bella; and her brothers; Ronnie (Joyce) Pollock, Dale (Lois) Pollock, Richard ( Florence) Pollock, and Rex (Karen) Pollock.   She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Karl, and her parents, Earl and Mimadelle Pollock.   A visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at BETHANY METHODIST CHURCH, 3910 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin, followed immediately by a memorial service at the church.   A private family burial will follow the service.     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Oakwood Foundation, Inc., 6201 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin, 53705; HospiceCare, Inc., 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison, Wisconsin, 53711; or the Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, Wisconsin, 53718.      Joette's children wish to thank Dr. Edward Prendergast of Dean Oncology for the care and compassion he provided Joette during her multiple battles with cancer.   Special thanks also to the 5th floor staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their warmth and kindness during Joette's hospitalization this past June.   And finally, we are grateful beyond what words can express for Joette's Hospice team for their help in keeping our mother comfortable in her home, surrounded by her family, in her final days.

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.   I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.   I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways.   Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.   I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun.   Of happy memories that I leave
