Joe Cottrell

December 22, 1935 — July 25, 2015

Janesville - Joe Cottrell, a man who loved to travel, embarked on his final journey on July 25, 2015. His wife and two daughters lovingly eased his departure.

Joe, raised in Oklahoma City, was born in Paoli County, OK, to Albert F and Clara R (Sullivan) Cottrell on December 22, 1935.

Joe developed a wanderlust early in life that took him to all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and Peru. While serving in the Army as a young man, his travels bought him to Wisconsin where he met his future bride, Beverly.

Joe and Beverly (Redman) married in 1957 in West Covina, CA. They resided in southern California for a number of years, where they raised their three children. They eventually returned to Wisconsin where they resided in Stoughton for many years while Joe continued his trade in carpet installation, contracting his own business in Dane County and surrounding areas.

In September of 2001 Joe and Beverly suddenly lost their only son, Mike, which left a hole in both their hearts. Joe, especially, felt an even deeper loss as Mike was his constant companion and business partner.

Joe is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Beverly; two daughters Brenda Fuller (Scott, Major USMC Ret) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Teri Cottrell of Janesville, WI; five grandchildren, Rani (Rex) Connely, USMC Capt Ryan (Abbie) Fuller of Barstow, CA, USMC Capt Adam (Leslie) Fuller, of Oceanside, CA, Amanda Stone, and Alex Cottrell of Janesville, WI; and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Albert (Wanda) Cottrell, of Ontario, CA, and sister Alie Faye Johnson (Leonard) of Oklahoma City, OK, 2 brothers in law, 4 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Elvert and Jerry, a sister, Mary Lou Yon, a special niece, Connie Scott, and three brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law, in addition to his son, Michael.

Joe was always an active, energetic man until the last three years of his life. He was renowned for his wonderful sense of humor, generosity, warm and compassionate heart. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton. Friends may greet the family from 12 noon until the time of services.

Thank you to the many who kept Joe and his family in their prayers during his illness and passing, and especially the visits that kept his spirits lifted. A special thanks go to Home Health United, Hospice. Joe' team in particular; Lisa, Tina, Jamie and Sister Georgeann went above and beyond, which was greatly appreciated by his family.
