Jessica Gusman

Jessica K. “Jessie” Gusman, age 94, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at her home at All Saints Assisted Living. She was born in Highland, IN on July 20, 1927, daughter to the late John and Effie (Veenstra) Kruit.

Jessie grew up on a dairy farm near Wausau and graduated from Wausau High School. She worked at Employers Mutual for approximately 12 years until her sweetheart Edsel E. Gusman returned home from the service. They married on October 5, 1957.  They were married for 56 years. Edsel preceded her in death on July 4, 2014.

Together they raised 3 daughters, living in Omaha, NE and then settling in Madison. After being a full-time mother for several years, she returned to Sears in accounting from 1971 until she retired in 1993.

Jessie was very active in her church, with groups, such as Pioneer Girls and Good News Clubs as well as other church activities. She was a huge Packers and Badgers fan, attending her first Packers game at Lambeau Field at age 91.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Renee (Jim) Kermath, Patti (Kevin) Mortland, and Christine (Fiancé Mike Baranowski) Gusman; three grandchildren, Andrew (Jana) Mortland, Lindsay (Michael) Azarbod and Hannah (Ty) Schreiner; 2 great-grandchildren, Ivy and Lincoln Azarbod; sister-in-law, Nancy “Monique” (Ron Nimmer) Gusman; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edsel, brother Bill, twin brother, Ed, and son-in-law, Christopher Ciesla.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow. Burial will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison. The service will be live streamed at the MarkandSara Weiss Facebook page.

Memorials may be made to Stoughton Baptist Church.
