Madison / Verona - Jerome J. Persak, of Madison, formerly of New Berlin, Wis., completed his circle of life on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the age of 66 years.
Beloved husband and best friend of Debbie for 40 years. Very proud and loved father of Lyndsey (Andy) Craven and Julie (Patrick) Empey; adoring papa of Alexandra Craven; dearest son of Joan Carroll; precious brother of Lynn Persak (Rev. Brian) Delvaux and Kathryn Persak Hay; dear son-in-law of Joan Janiszewski; loved brother-in-law of Mary and Ken Weltrowski and Jay and Amy Janiszewski. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, students and colleagues, relatives and friends, and many golf buddies.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Persak; grandparents, Leo and Agnes Persak; Carrie and Jack DeWitte; and father-in-law, Len Janiszewski.
Jerry was born on March 6, 1952, and grew up in West Allis, Wis. He attended Nathan Hale High School and graduated from UW-Milwaukee and Cardinal Stritch University. Jerry taught science and biology at Greenfield High School for 33 years, and enjoyed teaching adults at UW-Whitewater. He loved to golf, having achieved two holes-in-one, and especially liked fishing and spending summer days at the family cabin on Rock Dam Lake. He was a sports enthusiast, and loved watching the Packers and Badgers football and basketball.
Nothing gave Jerry more pleasure, however, than watching his girls play a multitude of sports over the years, enjoying band and orchestra concerts, watching them graduate from UW-Madison, walking them down the aisle, and helping paint their houses. He was thrilled to be a grandpa. Jerry will be greatly missed.
Many thanks to the physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and support staff at Froedtert Clinical Cancer Center and UW Carbone Cancer Center for their compassionate care of Jerry. The family is most grateful for the sincere support offered and provided by Agrace HospiceCare.
Per Jerry's wishes, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to consider a donation to the Greenfield Education Foundation in memory of Jerry. A scholarship fund has been established in his name to assist Greenfield High School students pursuing post-secondary education in biology or the sciences. (Greenfield Education Foundation, 4850 S. 60 Street, Greenfield, WI 53220, memo: Jerry Persak).
