Jerome "Jerry" G. Cap

Jerome (Jerry) Gerald Cap, December 3, 1942 – September 7, 2026, passed away after a brave struggle with cancer.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna; daughter, Theresa Weil (William); son, Jerome Cap; granddaughter, Anastasia Weil; and brother, James Cap (Joann). He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Cap, and his parents.

Jerry was born in Chicago, Illinois, where he grew up and attended the University of Illinois. After two years of college, Jerry enlisted in the Army for radar maintenance. After serving in the Army, he worked at Honeywell as a field service engineer repairing and calibrating industrial control systems across southern Wisconsin. During this time, he met the love of his life, Donna, and had two children together. Jerry and Donna bought their first house outside of Madison, Wisconsin. However, shortly after that, they moved to Amberg, Wisconsin, where they bought Donna’s father’s building supply business. After a few years, they sold the business and moved to the Town of Windsor in Dane County. They built a new home and Jerry started his long career at Oscar Mayer. He started work as a production mechanic during the night and did carpentry work on his house during the day. Jerry was elected Secretary Treasurer and chief steward as part of the union of Oscar Mayer. Rather than run for re-election, Jerry returned to school while continuing to work full time, earning a BA in Quantitative Analysis at UW Madison. After graduation, he applied and was hired as a supervisor in the Oscar Mayer plastics department. He was later reassigned and ran the daily operations of the Spice Department. He retired from Oscar Mayer and was contacted by Diversitch, a Chas Hanson Company, to help setup spice operations in a new plant outside of Stoughton. After a couple more years he resumed his retirement, this time for good. Donna and Jerry spent the next few years maintaining their nearly two acre lot and home, growing wine grapes and tending their vegetable garden. They also bought a fifth wheel trailor and traveled extensively across Florida during the winter months for a few years. In July 2022, they moved to Olympic Village, Sun Prairie, leaving the home that they had built and lived in for nearly 50 years.

Jerry thoroughly enjoyed the many friends at Olympic Village. He found great happiness while playing cards with the group.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM on Monday September 14, 2026 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. Burial will be at 2 PM on Tuesday September 15, 2026 at Amberg Cemetery in Amberg, WI.
