Jerome Breunig

Waunakee - Jerome J. Breunig, age 85, died on September 11, 2013 at the Waunakee Manor Health Care Center. Jerome was born on January 27, 1928 in the town of Berry to Norbert and Mary "Minnie" (Keleny) Breunig. The youngest of four children, and the only boy, Jerome grew up loving farming and loving to travel, as his dad would often pack up the family and drive to exciting far away places. He met the love of his life, Mary Kaltenberg, at a dance in Springfield Corners. They married in 1950 and he moved to the east edge of Waunakee to farm with Mary where they founded Breu-Kal Farms and raised their three sons. Jerome loved to travel. Throughout his life, when he wasn't farming, he and Mary would travel the countryside, taking memorable trips to every state in the continental United States and all provinces of Canada (and if he could, he would have driven to Hawaii). These trips included taking each of their grandchildren on a trip of their choice in their motor home, ranging from Disney World to Canada. They wintered the past many years in warmer places like Florida and Laughlin, Nevada. They toured Europe in 1973.
Jerome was a true gentleman who led by example. He served as a director for the Tri- State Breeders Cooperative, in Westby, WI and has served for decades on the Board of Directors for Arlington Mutual Insurance Company. He was a long time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waunakee.
Survivors include his wife Mary; three sons Daniel (Marjean), Gerald (Debbie), and Kurt (Peggy); eight grandchildren; Anton, Matthew, Meghan, Michael, Heather, Heidi, Kristopher, and Christopher; six great-grandchildren and one sister Florence Ballweg. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertilla Goeden and Bernadine Karls.
Funeral services will be held on Sat. Sept. 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Friends may call on Friday Sept. 13, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q Waunakee. Friends may also call at the church on Sat. from 9:30 until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful care provided by the staff at Dean Clinic, St Mary's Hospital, Waunakee Manor and St Jude Hospice.
