Jennie Jensen

January 6, 1917 — January 26, 2018

Racine- On January 26, 2018, Jennie Cecilia Jensen moved from the loving arms of her family on earth into the arms of her loving extensive family in heaven. She died peacefully at age 101. Jennie was born in Racine, at home, on January 6, 1917 to Jens Martin Hansen and Cecilia (Larsen) Hansen. Their last born and much loved child. A teenager during the depression did nothing to depress her ever present joy of life, and faith. She graduated in 1935 from Park High School, Racine, Wisconsin. She met the love of her life soon thereafter, in Paul Jensen. On September 2, 1939 she and Paul were married at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage and three daughters. Paul preceded her in death in 2000. Jennie and Paul built their own home in 1948 creating an open door policy for family, friends and neighbors. Jennie provided her children with a warm and happy childhood, similar to the one she had experienced. She often said that the years of raising her girls were the happiest years of her life. Jennie was the never ceasing nurturer of the family. She cared for nieces and nephews in her younger years and cared for her husband in her older years. At age sixty-six, her home was open, once again, for the completion of lovingly raising her two grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew. She was the holder of the many stories of Norway and Racine, which she happily told, thus keeping those gone before, always alive in our minds. She knit afghans but more importantly she knit the fabric of our family and cherished each and every one. Her strong Christian faith carried her through her greatest joys and deepest sorrows with the knowledge of salvation. From 1937 until her move to Sun Prairie in July 2011 she was an active, strong member of Gethsemane. She leaves behind two daughters, Jean Murphy of Sturtevant and Elaine (Edward) Huck of Oregon, WI. She was the happy grandmother to Mark (Kathleen) Nielsen, Jill Hoffman, Jennifer (Chris) Conway, Matthew (Windie) Hissa, Steven (Lola) Huck and Kirsten (Mike) Lynch. She was blessed with nine great grandchildren: Michael, Turner, Zachery, Aaron, Michael, Kelsey (Blake), Brett, Sara and Trevor. As well as nieces and nephews. Her daughter Susan Hissa-Kapaun preceded her in death in 2008 and son-in-law Patrick Murphy in 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Martha Swensen, Sophia Manger, Sigward Hansen and an infant brother John. Nieces and a nephew, her husband's family, as well as countless friends. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Wilson Funeral Home, 1212 Lathrop Avenue, Racine, with Rev. Karen Pahl officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following at the funeral home. Private burial will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park.
