Jelaine Johnson

Jelaine Bancroft Johnson passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015 at age 83. She was born in Madison on September 17, 1931 to the late Gerry and Madeline (Morgan) Bancroft.

She grew up a beloved daughter in Nakoma and attended Nakoma School and West High School. She attended the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of Wisconsin, Madison and was a Badger Beauty. She married Donald Brooks Johnson in 1954 and lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Jelaine and Don raised their family in Appleton and Madison.

Jelaine loved Madison and Blue Mounds, where her grandparents lived. She worked at Anchor Bank and Equifax and was senior usher at the Overture Center in her retirement years.

She was an avid traveler and adventurer. Jelaine lived a year in Jackson Hole, WY and was an elementary school teacher in Bogota, Colombia where she and her daughter lived for a year.

Jelaine loved nature, sports, travel and being outdoors.

She will be remembered as a wonderful mom and grammy. She is survived by her children, Jeri (Bill) Russell of Chicago, IL, and their children, Bill Russell of London, England and Michael Russell of Chicago, IL; Scott Johnson of Billings, MT, and Laurie (Mark) Koepke of Green Lake, WI and their children, Andrew (Mariel) Koepke of Chicago, IL, Jason Koepke of Chicago, IL, and Kendall Koepke of Merton, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Jelaine's Life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4100 Nakoma Road, Madison.
