Jeanette Livie

Madison/Town of Burke - Jeanette D. Livie, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. She was born in 1922, the daughter of Jesse and Minnie (Gullickson) Droster and grew up on the family dairy farm in Burke Station. She graduated from Madison East High School, and after unexpectedly receiving a scholarship, Jeanette attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1943 with a major in accounting. Shortly after graduation, she became the first woman working as an accountant on the field staff of the Municipal Accounting Division for the Wisconsin Department of Taxation. Later, she was employed as an administrative assistant in the accounting department of the State Medical Society.

On May 11, 1945, she was united in marriage to Walter Livie, one of her classmates in accounting at the UW. Living in the country, they devoted much time to their flower beds, small vegetable garden and prolific raspberry and blackberry patches. They also enjoyed traveling, particularly in the American West, and many years of Badger football, basketball and hockey.

Jeanette was a faithful and longtime member of the Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer, secretary of the 1961 Building Council and on numerous other boards and commissions. Also over the years, she was very active in many other local organizations.

Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her example of unconditional love will always be her epitaph and an inspiration to those she left behind. Jeanette touched many hearts and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Lynn (John) Balling of Salem, Oregon and a grandson, David Troy (Jessica) Balling of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Mary Margaret; a brother, Warren; a sister, Doris and Phil Peterson.

Funeral services will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE PRAIRIE RIDGE, TREE OF LIFE CHAPEL on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 11:00 am with Reverend Jenny Arneson officiating. A visitation will be held at Oakwood Prairie Ridge, Tree of Life Chapel on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of services. Graveside services will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
