Janice Marcia (Irvin) Thompson, 93, of DeForest passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Oakwood Village in Madison.

Janice was born on February 15, 1933 in Madison to Harold and Violet (Johnson) Irvin. She graduated from East High School in 1951. After graduation, Janice worked for Wisconsin Power & Light until 1953, and then was employed at Dairyland Mutual Insurance until 1957. Janice worked at Madison Metropolitan School District from 1972 until 1980. In May of 1956, Janice met John Thompson and they were engaged on July 3, 1956. The two were wed on October 27, 1956.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Guild at Grace Episcopal Church, and a faithful member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal church in Sun Prairie.

Janice enjoyed cooking and Navajo weaving. She loved horses, dogs and turtles, but especially loved spending time with her family.

Janice is survived by her sons, Dale Thompson, Bruce Thompson; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Thompson and Veronica Thompson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Violet Irvin; husband, John Thompson; and twin-sister, Janet Christofferson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dane County Humane Society, Columbia County Humane Society, or a Humane Society of one’s choice.

A memorial service will take place at 11AM on Monday, August 31, 2026 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sun Prairie. A visitation will take place from 10AM until the time of service.
