Janice Mell

SUN PRAIRIE--Janice M. Mell (Bedward), age 77, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on August 4, 1940 in Wyalusing, WI. to Richard "Dick" and Mildred (Seely) Bedward. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1958 and was united in marriage to Edward Mell on August 8th, 1959.

She worked various jobs, including Rural Mutual Insurance Co. in Madison, until the birth of her first child in 1972, when she began an in-home daycare that continued up until her illness in 2009. The numerous children that came into Janice's life were her greatest source of joy. She selflessly and lovingly cared for them, delighting in getting to see them grow up through the years.

When not working, Janice enjoyed sewing clothing for the family, listening to country music, and being outdoors as much as possible at the family cabin. She loved traveling with her children to many different places, including Rocky Mountain National Park, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and a recent road trip to Captiva, Florida.

Janice is survived by her children Cheryl (David) Peterson of Madison, Daryl Mell of Sun Prairie, and Darrin (Geoffrey Asklof) Mell of Ames, IA. She is further survived by her two sisters Bernice (Ivan) Norton of Madison and Karen (Jim) Jelinek of Madison, brother Lloyd (Joanne) Bedward of Prairie du Chien, and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband Edward, parents Dick and Mildred Bedward, and two brothers Roger (Rocile) Bedward of Cary, IL and Lyle (Margaret) Bedward of Blue River.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, WI 53590. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home with a funeral service beginning at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens.
