Madison - Janice A. Brunsell, age 76, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born October 15, 1935 in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Willard and Pearl (Showers) Marty. She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1953 and has faithfully attended class reunions over the years. Janice met Richard Brunsell in study hall and classes at Madison Business College. She told her mother that she had her eye on a young man at Business College and that she "was going to marry that guy". Janice and Dick were married on September 30, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Janice worked with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for over 30 years, having started at the State Fish Hatchery. Janice worked in the management of federal funds that supported the Department's mission.
Janice and Dick enjoyed traveling together. They visited South America, Australia, Canada's Northwest Territory, New Zealand, Kenya and much of the United States, especially enjoying their time each year in Florida with Janice's brother, Norman.
Janice and Dick have been faithful, long time members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Janice was a loving wife and a strong and courageous woman, who faced her final challenges with grace and dignity.
Janice is survived by her husband, Dick; her nieces and nephews, Patricia Manthey of Plymouth, Vicki (Don) Meyer of Belleville, Kenneth (Jeannie) Erickson of Monroe, Donald (Jean) Erickson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ronald (Rose) Erickson of New Glarus; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Graham of Pewaukee, Dorothy (Clarance) Taplin of Plain, Elwyn (Leslie) Brunsell of Janesville, Jean (Bob) Hackman of Davenport, Florida, Judy (Bud) Hatlevig of Friendship and David (Sharon) Brunsell of Mason, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Norman Marty; her sister Ruth (Virgil) Erickson; her sisters-in-law Joan Brunsell and Luanne Townsend; and brother-in-law, Gerald Brunsell.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 11 a.m. at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Road, Madison, WI 53711. A visitation will be held prior to service beginning at 10 a.m.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Hebron at Oakwood West for the loving and professional care given to Janice.
