Janette M. Arneson

Janette Mary (McCoy) Arneson, also known as “Mrs. A”, age 93, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 in Sun Prairie, WI. She was born on January 3, 1931 in Evansville, WI, the daughter of Burchard M. and Ruth Hazel (Milligan) McCoy.

Jan graduated from Evansville High School and attended MATC. She worked for Forest Product Research Society and Felly’s Flowers (West) Store for many years. Jan also provided in-home childcare for 12 years.

Jan married Kenneth R. Arneson on June 9, 1956 in the United Methodist Church in Evansville. She was then a member of University United Methodist Church in Madison. Jan was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Madison holding many volunteer positions at the church. She was currently a member at Sun Prairie United Methodist Church.

Jan was very active in her community as an Eastern Star, Brownie leader with Girl Scouts, Westside 4-H Club, and teaching ESL at church. She loved her second home “Cedarwood” in Green Lake, WI. Jan will be remembered as a gracious hostess of parties and open houses, large or small, and for any occasion! She loved collecting cardinals. She also loved her Irish heritage, and she was an avid Badger, Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan.

Jan is survived by her children: Kyle (Julie) of Verona; Rev. Jenny of Sun Prairie; and Kurt (Mary) of Bealeton, VA; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers-in-law Phil (Doris); Rodney (Dorothy); Bob (Karen); Lee (Mary), all of Janesville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth.

The family wishes to thank Hyland Park Assisted Living in Sun Prairie for the care and community they offered the last four years and to Agrace Hospice for their care and compassion the last six months.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jan Arneson will be on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 1 pm at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service. Per Jan's request, please wear bright spring colors. Ken and Jan will be reunited in their final place of rest in a ceremony at 11:00 am on Monday, May 12, 2025 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 1 Speedway Road, Madison, WI 53705.

Also, per her request, a reception will follow the service with a Hot Fudge Sundae bar with ice cream and toppings. Memorials are appreciated to Sun Prairie United Methodist Church (https://sunprairieumc.org/about-us/donate-give-tithe/) or the charity of your choice.

Count our days by golden hours and don’t remember clouds at all.

Count our life with smiles, not tears.

And count our age by friends, not years.
