Janet (Sprengel) Faulhaber

Janet was born July 9th, 1921 in Sheboygan to Ino and Sylvester Sprengel.  She attended old Central High School and the new North High school, and attended Milwaukee State Teachers College, now UW-Milwaukee.  In 1941, she married her high school band director, the late Charles M. Faulhaber.  They resided in Sheboygan until October of 1951 when the family moved to Madison and became owners of the Ward-Brodt Music Company, then located at 208 State Street.    She became President of Ward-Brodt upon the death of Charles in 1969.  She became well known by local musicians and teachers as an expert in instrumental music and was often called to do extensive research for hard-to-find publications.  She was involved in many national and local music organizations and received the print music industry’s highest honor from the Retail Print Music Dealer Association.  She was an avid reader and traveled much of the world.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Schmelzer, of The Villages, Florida,  son, Michael (Anne), of Fitchburg, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her two sisters and a brother.
